Doyle’s Cafe - Acrylic on Canvas - 30” x 24”

‘As an artist, I am often drawn to subjects that hold personal significance or resonate with me on a deeper level.’

This was certainly true when I decided to create a painting of my hometown Vancouver with an observer's point of view of the French Connection movie. For me, the film was a cultural touchstone that offered a poignant commentary on society and the human condition. Its gritty realism and portrayal of the dark underbelly of urban life, along with its exploration of complex themes such as morality, power, and corruption, left a deep impression on me.

In my painting, I aimed to capture the essence of the French Connection in my own unique way. By incorporating elements from the film's story and the character of Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle, I sought to infuse the piece with a sense of narrative and depth.
