Watercolour 12.5”x 8.5” - Reproduction - Fire at the Grand Storehouse of the Tower of London c.1841

In 1834, when the old Houses of Parliament were set ablaze, JMW Turner joined the massive crowd of people who had gathered to witness the spectacle. He later created two paintings from the perspective of the Surrey side of the Thames, which showed the fire at different stages: one at its peak and the other as it was gradually subsiding.
